How the Starbucks Coffee Shortage Can Help Women Entrepreneurs Lose Weight and Look Younger Now
“Starbucks coffee shortage…this is the worst day of my life,” she screamed into the phone. This morning, I got a call from a frantic female entrepreneur Sandy, who is also one of my best friends. I didn’t immediately understand she was trying to tell me that Starbucks was out of coffee supplies.
I’ve just never imagined that Starbucks coffee shortage would be a real thing. I guess the pandemic took a real toll on menu ingredients like oat milk and other favorites. The company explained that, “[d]ue to current supply shortages, some of your favorites may be temporarily out of stock.” And according to the Wall Street Journal, cake pops and cup stoppers’ supplies are running out.
Anyway, the first thing I said when Sandy told me was, “maybe this is a good thing….you may finally quit sugar for good” Not missing a beat, she said, “This is best way for a Starbucks coffee, cake pop and sugar latte addict like me to stop sugar cravings instantly and quit sugar for good.”
Easier said than done. Sandy’s “been trying” to quit Sugar for 10 years now, and she (jokingly) blames Starbucks personally for keeping her stuck on the caffeine and processed sugar. And if Starbucks sent Sandra and many female entrepreneurs a check for every latte, coffee or cake pop they buy daily, they’ll be millionaires several times over.
I get it. And I don’t. I’ve never tasted coffee. Not once in 45 years, but I was a sugar addict for at least 40 years. So I can understand that whole Starbucks addiction phenomenon. You can read my sugar addiction struggle and journey to real food and health coaching at grownwomeneatrealfood.com.
Sandy is not the only female entrepreneur dealing with a Starbucks crisis today. In fact, many of my clients are all member of the “I’m going crash if I don’t get my sugar now club.” And nothing says woman entrepreneur boss than the obligatory Starbucks latte.
Starbucks is definitely one of the ways many women sabotage their weight loss and healthy hormones, especially for those who need more than 3 Starbucks coffee cups a day to function in their lives, businesses and relationships. When it comes to female entrepreneurs and their wellbeing, I sometimes wonder whether Starbucks coffee is the new Food Addiction.
But more on that in another post.
How to Shift from a Starbucks Coffee and Sugar Latte Addiction to Drinking More Water
Sandy asked me for some advice today on how to go get through her day without the looming 3 pm crash and she wanted some beverage and snack options to support her while Starbucks deals with the coffee shortage. She says this her opportunity to finally start her journey to quit sugar for good, and choose healthier snack options instead of her chocolate cookie pick me up at 3.30 pm.
She’d love to drink more water, but hates the taste of water AND she’ll love to trade in those sugar lattes for healthier options.
Sandy is NOT alone.
Raise your hand if you’re a female entrepreneur who gets intense sugar craving or a sudden loss of energy around 3.30pm. Keep your hands up if you make at least one trip to Starbucks every day for your Starbucks coffee or sugar latte treat. And tap your feet if you’re working on being healthier, stronger, and feeling better throughout the day.
Here’s the deal.
Take baby steps. Just one little step at a time. Small hinges swing big doors.
Being consistent and achieving your healthy body and hormone goals is subject to keeping your blood sugar stable throughout the day. Focusing on staying hydrated and eating nutrient dense foods is key.
It’s important to stay hydrated. And while I know that Starbucks coffee is the go-to beverage for many female entrepreneurs, I invite you to consider water. Yes, water.
Water doesn’t just hydrate. It regulates blood sugar, decreases sugar and processed food cravings, and increases energy.
Drink up, women entrepreneurs!
Yes, I know it’s not a frothy latte, but I guarantee you’ll thank me later. Staying hydrated every day, especially before you hit the caffeine in the morning is the easiest way to stay healthy with glowing, smoother skin and a flatter, happier belly.
Water reduces cravings, balances hormones, reduces inflammation, balances blood sugar, flushes out toxins, and slows down signs of aging. Yes, it does ALL of the things the pills, lotions and diets promise.
Experts say it’s best to drink half your body weight in ounces every day. If you’re not a ‘water person,’ consider starting with 1 or 2 cups of warm water (with lemon slices or grated ginger) in the morning, and then slowly working your way to at least 6 more cups throughout the day.
Adding lemon slices, grated ginger or any of the other garnishes listed below will boost the taste and give you a great tool for ditching belly bloat, painful gas, indigestion, nausea, and other unwanted conditions. A few natural, simple, and clean flavors you can add include:
Fresh lemon juice.
Fresh lemon slices.
Fresh ginger slices.
Fresh mint leaves.
Fresh cucumber slices.
Fresh slices of pineapple.
Fresh basil or cilantro.
Consider water your new pick me up! Skip the fast fix of sugar and caffeine and hydrating with good ole water, especially if you’re a female entrepreneur over 40. You’ll flush out those darned toxins, balance your hormones (huge win), prevent muscle cramps, reduce inflammation and regulate your metabolism.
OH, but there’s more.
Water carries the nutrients your body needs to different parts of the body, lubricates your joints, slows down the signs of aging and helps regulate your body temperature too.
How much water you need depends on your level of activity, and how much caffeine and alcohol (the top two dehydrating and premature aging culprits) you consume. Start with one or two cups and keep a bottle with you at your desk. Add more water only at a rate that feels comfortable for you and you’ll develop the habit as your body adjusts over time.
Now, let’s help Sandy out and talk snacks.
Healthier Snacks to Curb Starbucks Coffee or Latte Cravings and the Sugar Crash Affecting Women Entrepreneurs
You may find that 3 meals a day works for you, while your best friend or partner thrives with 6 mini meals a day. Finding what works for your unique body is key to having energy, staying full and nourished, and avoiding unhealthy snacking or the processed foods and sugar latte afternoon self-sabotage.
I’m curious. What’s your go to snack when you’re feeling famished in between meals?
I cannot tell you how many women entrepreneurs tell me they rely solely on Starbucks lattes, chocolate, chips, cookies, cheese or other not-so-healthy snacks hiding in the kitchen or desk drawer.
While there’s nothing wrong with snacking per se, unfortunately most of snacks we tend to reach for at 3.30 pm are the very things that sabotage maintaining a healthy weight, hormone health, better sleep, energy and clear skin. The best way to avoid unhealthy snacking is eating nutrient dense meals and drinking water.
And if snacking is is your thing, having healthy options within reach spare you from self-sabotage during those hair-on-fire moments when you need a quick pick-me-up. So, when you find yourself heading for that crash, here a few healthy snack options to replace the cookies, ice-cream, Starbucks sugar lattes and anything else that could derail all your hard work so far.
These options are healthier, nutrient dense and filling, gut-friendly and great for your digestion and yummy too.
• 1⁄4 cup raw seeds or nuts.
• 1⁄4 cup raw sugar snap peas.
• 1-2 Tablespoons sunflower seed butter, almond butter, hemp seed butter, or pumpkin seed butter on celery sticks.
• 1 sliced cucumber with sea salt + a dash of cayenne pepper.
• Fresh figs + ½ cup dairy or non-dairy yogurt.
• 1 apple, 1⁄2 banana, 1⁄2 cup grapes, grapefruit, kiwi, orange, pear, persimmons, or tangerine.
• 1⁄2 avocado with sea salt + watercress + dandelion leaves.
• Raw veggie delight: carrot, celery, cucumber, red pepper & 2 Tablespoons hummus.
• 1⁄4 cup of cultured veggies with 2 Tablespoons of dulse flakes (buy them at Whole Foods) – wonderful for your adrenals, thyroid, and metabolism, plus they’re chock full of vitamins and minerals. This is SUPER for optimal digestion, youthful glow and radiant skin and hair.
Don’t let unhealthy snacking derail all the great work you’re doing in your life, health and business.

And I’ve got to be honest with you. Your relationship with Coffee or Sugar or Cookies or Lattes or any kind of processed food AND your relationship to your body is way more powerful than you might believe. Relationship is the root.
These two relationships impact your health and your life even more than the Coffee, Sugar, Cookies, Latte or processed food of choice that you eat or drink. Whatever beverages or foods you’re craving and eating or drinking are just outward manifestations of what’s really going on inside. Your relationship to your body (your health) lasts a lifetime and is the longest relationship you’ll ever have.
So, while these small shifts like drinking more water, eating healthier snacks, and laying off the processed foods are important, the MOST important thing is your MINDSET. What you believe when you relate to food and your body is the key to creating a healthier life and body, and is more important than what you eat or drink.
